WHY WE EXIST

The world faces a global mental health crisis that is dangerously under-funded, under-prioritised and over-stigmatised.

  • According to the WHO, nearly 1 billion people in the world suffer from poor mental health, involving significant disturbances in thinking, emotional regulation or behaviour. Every 40 seconds, someone dies by suicide and 20 more try.

  • Poor mental health costs the global economy USD1 trillion every year due to 12 billion days of lost productivity due to anxiety and depression. The median age of onset for any mental illness is just 14 years old.

  • We all have a right to the support that we need to care for our mental health (UN Declaration of Human Rights).

  • Indvidually, having good mental health means we are better able to care for ourselves and our families. Collectively, our mental health influences the pace and potential of societal change, shaping our capacity to adapt, to cope with crisis and to deliver the Sustainable Development Goals.

We need radical collaboration to catalyse a systemic shift in global mental health education, services and support. We believe that by encouraging and helping new funders to integrate mental health into their work, we can accelerate our transition to a mentally healthy world.
